Round Shield with steel fittings

There is considerable evidence throughout the history of continental Europe which shows the predominantly use round shields made of leather, wood, or wicker, with metal fittings and a metal boss or umbo which were being used from the time of the Bronze Age onwards into the viking times or dark ages up until William the conqueror in 1066.
